Greg Minnaar Flat Out Rips On a Bike. Check it.

“My 2 fondest memories are my win in Fort William 2009. I had 12 of my SA crew come out and watch…. the Win just top the weekend off. The other was winning the World Cup in my hometown in front of my family and friends. I have to apologize to Oakley for all my mates and fans who were so pumped after the win…they found the Oakley pit the place to celebrate…. that was the start of a long night.”

Q & A

  1. Favorite Oakley products and how they help you?

The O-Frame Goggles. In Downhill you need to have perfect view of the rocks, roots and obstacles that are coming at you at high speed, and often times in dodgy lighting, so my O-Frames and the range of lenses available mean that vision is the least of my worries.

  2. What's it mean to you to be riding for Oakley?

Oakley and I have been together since I started my career. There is a sense of family and loyalty that has always been with me. Apart from the product which is obviously the best for my sport, I know I can always count on Oakley's support of what I do.

  3. So you’re from South Africa. We have to ask…did you run into a funky assortment of animals growing up? (please say Giraffe!) Explain.

Sh**, you're not joking about a Giraffe. I was about 12, i went for a xc loop with my older sister, we went to a park that we had ridden in a couple times. We hadn't ridden there in a while, so we were cruise up the single track to the top of the hill, pedaled through the thick brush and as we popped out, there was a Mother Giraffe with a baby. I thought the blood thing would run away as we got closer… but instead it started to charge us… We spun around and headed straight down on this fire road to safety, missing out on all the good single track and jumps…. bloody animals. My other encounter was a shark. My friends saw it while we were out surfing, they all paddled in and never warned me. I look back to get on a wave and there this shark swimming through the swell. At that moment I could have walked on water.

  4. When did you first start riding bikes? Where/why?

I started riding when I was 12 and started Downhill when i was 16. My parents bought a Bike shop. That's what got me going on mountain bikes.

  5. What has driven you to work super hard and rise up beyond mediocrity?

The Challenge, it irritates the hell out of me when people tell me, you can't make that, you'll never do this….

  6. Are you a rebel? Why or why not?

Na…. whoever calls themselves a rebel is probably not, and would probably be better off acting themselves. If you're a rebel, you would probably have no idea you are.

  7. If you weren’t killing it in MTB, what would you be doing for a living?

Working at the Bike shop…wahaha. No, we've recently launched an exclusive vacation company I'm also involved with a distribution company in Europe And back in SA i'm part of Aquea Plant Hire. We rent out skid steers and graders… So there's plenty going on for me to choose from.

  8. Talent…other than ripping on a bike...

Definitely not Surfing…. I would say Motocross would be 2nd in line.

  9. Your Favorite…(Start with your favorite music artist or something):

Lately i've been listening to DJ's, Bloody Beetroots, Benni Benassi and Tiesto

  10. Oakleys are…

Permanently on my face, impossible to leave the house without.

  11. Best song to ride to:

    Album, Metalica Black

  12. C-Walking, Head Banging or fist pumping? Which one?:

    Combination of the three!

  13. Dream vacation spot:

Home, I can't get enough of the place.

  14. Would you rather get punched in the gut by Mr. T. or super roundhouse kicked in the face by Chuck Norris?

    I'd take on Chuck

  15. People would be super surprised if they knew that you…

...Are sh** scared of highs and flying.

  16. What tricks are you working on?

I'm working on a way to do squats while surfing, that way I have an alternative for gym and spend more time in the water.

  17. You’ve been mistaken for…

Casey Stoner at the Estoril Moto GP

  18. Food…

    Italian, Japanese, Mexican and Indian

  19. Taylor Swift or Myley Cyrus? Or if you’d prefer older, Megan Fox or Diane Kruger?

Going for the safe bet of Megan Fox, I don't know the others…. Safe but good

  20. If there’s one thing that people in the industry would recognize you by, what would that be?

The way I walk…. I've put in huge efforts to try and stop walking on my toes. Even my Girlfriend rips on me.

  21. Last words…

I'm on a flight from Barcelona to Frankfurt, it's taken me the full duration of this 2 hour flight to do this interview. One finger typing anti fast. (HAHAHA, you're welcome Greg.)
