Fernando Alonso is one of the absolute best Formula 1 drivers on the Planet. Hailing from Spain, he won the Formula One World Driver’s Championship title on September 25, 2005 – at the age of 24 years and 58 days, making him the youngest Formula One World Drivers’ Champion. After retaining the title the following year, Alonso also became the youngest double Champion. Nicknamed El Nano, a typical pseudonym for Fernando in Asturias, his place of birth, Alonso acts as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.

    It seemed Marc Marquez’s good fortunes were finally at their end. After four consecutive victories to begin the MotoGP season, an early error from the young Spaniard had him fall from 1st to 10th on the opening lap of the France Grand Prix in Le Mans. The reigning world champion, however, was unphased and methodically worked his way back to the front of the pack. On the 13th lap he overtook Oakley teammate Valentino Rossi and never looked back, securing his fifth straight win and a 42-point cushion in the standings. Rossi ended up second.

    It was a dual for first between the reigning champ and the living legend in the heat of Jerez, Spain. However, Valentino Rossi’s position leading the race would be short-lived, with young Marc Marquez stealing back the lead and holding as much as a four-second cushion beyond the field. Marquez comfortably took the win, his fourth consecutive victory to begin the 2014 campaign.
