Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy came out swinging to begin his PGA career. At 22, he recorded his first major victory at the 2011 US Open. McIlroy won the 2012 PGA Championship at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina.
Japanese LPGA golfer Ai Miyazato entered the final round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship tied for fourth place. It took a remarkable final day, 6-under 65 to rally from behind to capture the title. Her victory in Arkansas was her second LPGA win of the year and the ninth of her six-year career on tour. She shot an impressive 12-under for the tournament, narrowly defeating fellow Japanese pro, and good friend, Mika Miyazato.
Twenty-Three Year Old Northern Ireland golf phenom Rory McIlroy is back on U.S. soil, armed and ready to defend his 2011 U.S. Open title. The young golfer won his first major tournament last year at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, putting him on the map and ultimately rocketing him up the PGA’s world golf rankings. It was an emotional scene as McIlroy’s father was on hand to watch his son during one of the most important moments of his professional and personal life. McIlroy hopes to repeat his dominance this year at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.
