How would you describe someone like James Nitties who has a top-five finish on the Nationwide Tour this year and lists his interests as girls, partying and movies? The answer is someone you want to hang out with at night but not have to play the next day in a tournament.

Playful by nature, Nitties comes by both his game and hobbies as natural as making a birdie on a short par five. A product of the Australasian Institute of Sport, his dad once filled in as a backup bassist for Australian band AC/DC, and movies actually help him on the course.

Don’t be misled into thinking that Nitties is a rock star clone taking a walk on the wild side. Rather, he is merely following in the line of fun-loving Australians who have made a name for themselves in golf. He has represented Australia for three years in various competitions such as the Eisenhower Trophy and the Four Nations Cup. Nitties got a world view by playing golf on the European PGA Tour, Australasia Tour, Nationwide Tour and Hooters Tour. In his second professional event, he finished second in the Australian PGA ahead of the likes of Adam Scott and Greg Norman.

His biggest obstacle has been a recurring battle with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Two years ago he played well on the Nationwide Tour and was looking to earn membership on the circuit. The arthritis flared up and he was forced to miss the remainder of the season.

Playing pain-free, Nitties expects to have fun competing in “The Big Break: Mesquite” – which shouldn’t come as a surprise in the least.

I love seeing a movie because it allows me to totally zone out. It is great for my golf because it gives my mind a break now and then.
