Tour de Pink

For months, a steadfast crew of Oakley employees, known as the Pink Pedal Pushers, trained, raised money and committed to jump in their Lycra for the West Coast Tour de Pink, a 220-mile bike ride on Southern California’s coast to raise awareness and funds for Young Survival Coalition, a foundation that ensures no woman diagnosed under the age of 40 faces breast cancer alone.

For the three-day ride October 12-14, participants were required to raise $2500, and $250 for a single-day ride. Not only did the Oakley team raise their minimum, but exceeded it by raising $18,232.

“I opted for the three-day ride and fundraising seemed like a huge undertaking,” said Jillian Tymchy, Oakley Marketing Specialist. “I sent emails to family, friends and co-workers, and was overwhelmed with everyone’s generosity and support.”

The Pink Pedal Pushers rode with more than 125 other cyclists, all of them having one thing in common: To support young women who have, or who are facing breast cancer.

“My favorite moments were seeing my team together each morning and each night at dinner,” said Marketing Manager, Erica Anderson. “We bonded with the other YSC riders and survivors, but spending 72 solid, straight hours with my Oakley family was incredible. We were in it together, for YSC and all women faced with breast cancer.”

Three days, and 220 miles later, the West Coast Tour de Pink culminated at Oakley HQ for a styled-out finale party. As cyclists poured across the finish line, supporters cheered them on in near 100-degree heat.

Oakley Program Manager, Bill Mall chose to participate after experiencing a similar style of fundraising event, and knew Tour de Pink would be fun and rewarding. Bill said, “It was a moving and pretty emotional experience. Knowing that I was able to support young women facing breast cancer, and join all of the others around me doing the same, was pretty cool. Crossing the finish line on the last day, knowing that we finished in shining fashion and that all the hard work paid off, was an incredible moment.”
